Sunny Day Pop Tuesday (Japanese Import)

Spring Boutique

Released August 2003

By Quince (Japan)

The first Asian region band which Quince Records sends towards the world. It is 5 piece band formed in the Philippines. Young guitar pop! which inherits tradition, such as Acid House Kings, Red Sleeping Beauty and Club 8. Furthermore, songwriting and arrangement with the sense under the influence from 60's pop and bossa nova is also impressed to us. The cute female vocal with a clear feeling is too much attractive. This album is their 1st album, and created the mastering and the artwork for Japanese version. It is the meaning which divines a future scene surely, and is the debut of a bright hope which Quince can guarantee to everybody !!! (Quince Records)

P!O!P! Reviews

Great jangly old-style indiepop from the Philippines. Like a lot of pop like this, it's twee, but not cringe-makingly twee. Their music is comparable to Shelflife bands, and sure enough, they have since released a CDR as part of Shelflife's limited CDR series, which contains 4 songs from this CD, remastered. Don't miss this if you like 80s style cute pop!

This lovely cd is a perfect way to start your day right. just what I need to start mine, at least. pure indiepop from top to finish. The songs remind me of a cross between late velocity girl and "mondays are like tuesdays..."-era acid house kings. I love the charming vocals, the catchy guitar hooks on the chorus of "afternoon lullabye", the bap pa pas on "your lips + my lips" and "so twee, so free" got stuck in my head as I was writing this.

It's a great mix of fun and poignant pop tunes, a colorful ride that you shouldn't find yourself sitting or lying down while listening to. sitting or lying down? get up and dance!

pop pop pop!

I may not have listened to x number of pop bands to make a convincing and believable critique. I dont even know if Im credible enough to get tangent nods. But I think I know just enough to be able to segregate good music from crap. And Spring Boutique's debut CD is certainly one heck of a good pop album. Im a sucker for catchy pop songs that gets stuck in you head (I kept humming so twee, so free all morning).

Most of the ingredients of a perfect pop record are generously sprinkled all over Sunny Day Pop Tuesday: short songs (none going over the 4 minute mark), lovely girl vocals singings pap-pa-pas (and many variations of it), chiming guitars, carefree lyrics of love and kisses did I said sprinkled? This album is practically dipped and dripping of all things pop.

CD Moments easy listening, like riding a bicycle on a sunny Sunday afternoon songs for dreamers, lovers, and the young at heart soundtrack for summer, soundtrack for rainfalls like I said, dripping.

This could easily have been a review of any other pop album, but still, there is something special about Sunny Day Pop Tuesday that makes one glad about life, and maybe makes one fall in love all over again. If I couldnt determine that special something, it would be besides the point anyway.
